HUGH APISTON
THE BOY FILLED WITH BEES MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN TAG SPEED: Generally, I'd say I run a bit on the slower side. It takes me a couple of days to tag back, especially through the weekdays. I can sometimes be available for boomeranging on weekends.

Hugh is known as a "Peculiar" or syndrigast, people born with a second soul that manifests itself via a gift, ability, or oddity. Hugh is a living beehive; his peculiarity is that he can mentally communicate with and control the many honey bees that live inside of his stomach. This works as a sort of hive mind sentience, with Hugh able to connect with and see through the minds of his bees at will. He can do this as a swarm or with a single bee at a time. It is implied that he can control other members of the hymenoptera order, but his usual brood consists of honey bees. For the most part, however, Hugh has no need to control them and lets them simply do as they please. They often come and go from his mouth at any given time, and are prone to hanging out around his head, buzzing constantly. However, even when he's not actively controlling them, he is highly sensitive to them and they are connected with his mental state. They will react accordingly if Hugh is happy, agitated, etc. Though Hugh's bees are clearly not average, they can be injured and killed as easily as any other bee, so he is quite protective over them and keeps them close to home. This especially pertains to Henry, who unfortunately only has one wing, and is a very good boy. Hugh can also "recruit" new bees to join his hive, and it seems that once a bee has formed a connection with his mind, they will stay with him for the rest of their life.
Emotional and wears his heart on his sleeve, a smidgen sassy but mostly sweet, open-minded, compassionate, affectionate, protective, and quite sentimental. Prone to collecting little items for memory's sake. Friendly and open, but gets on a bit better with insects and animals. Can be a little awkward with people. Sunshine boy; could be outside 24/7 and be perfectly content.
Hugh is from an obscure little series that is a mixture of fantasy, historical, colourful, dark, and a ton of quirky. I feel he's a malleable character with a lot of potential for tossing him into different types of places with different types of people. Some specific ideas include: gifted school / boarding house type things; canonically that's pretty much his jam, anyway. Gifted people trying to pose as normal ones would also be fun. Familial times as well; adoption, blood relatives, etc. I very much enjoy oddball type scenarios, so something such as on the run or joining a circus / "freak show" could be fun. I also am up for horror type settings, as he's a character who could fit into that sort of thing pretty well. I enjoy brainstorming, testing things out, and playing around with mashups, so feel free to pitch any ideas you might have, too! AGE: Exact unknown; has the appearance of a young boy around 12 or 13. Born somewhere in the 1920's, Hugh was then stuck in a time loop in the year 1940 for quite a long time. FROM: England originally. Lived in Wales for quite a long time. APPEARANCE: On the cusp of a growth spurt, he's practically all limb. A sweet, youthful face, with mousey features. Blue-grey eyes, brown hair. All the sun he spends time in has added some natural highlighting to his hair and tanning to his skin. I generally play Hugh as a loose blend of movie canon and book canon. There are quite a few differences between the two, and I'm totally fine being flexible with details. Considering his canon is a little inconsistent in general, it's easy to be! But my usual depiction of him is very "basic", in that it doesn't take place during any specific canon point; he's just living in the loop. If anyone is interested in a strictly book canon Hugh, I do have an alternate account for him! (He'd be a bit older, I'd pay more attention to specific canon events, and play more into the "old soul" thing. And in that case, I'd be canon-compliant up to book three). |
